The History

In 1953, due to the popularity that Sports Car Races had acquired, the FIA decided to institute a trophy to be given to the leading car manufacturer company along the season named World Sports Car Championship. The so called “1000 Kilometres of Buenos Aires” race came up when the Automovil Club Argentino (ACA) decided to include such category so that together with the F1 would conform The International Argentine Season; “La temporada”.

From 1954 to 1958 the competition took place uninterruptedly. Then, in 1960 it regained its presence in the calendar; and, from 1970 (which points did not count for the championship) to 1972, the traditional longest scenario of the racetrack was used again, with several changes regarding the rules, but with the same splendor and magnificency. As from said year, the 1000 Km. would turn out to be one of the greatest memories of the motor racing in Argentina.
